What is a remote SEO manager? A remote SEO manager is a senior practitioner who owns your search program from outside your office: strategy, technical fixes, content direction, and reporting. The difference from an agency is that you work with one named person who learns your business, rather than an account manager relaying instructions to junior staff. The difference from a full-time employee is that you pay for seniority and output rather than a salary, benefits, and a desk.

Most companies do not need a full-time SEO manager. They need a senior one. There is enough strategic work to justify real expertise, but not enough day-to-day volume to fill forty hours a week, and the budget for a $130,000 hire does not exist yet.

That gap is where remote works. You get 15+ years of judgment applied to your specific site, without the salary, the benefits load, the recruiting fee, or the risk of hiring the wrong person into a permanent role. And because I have spent my whole career working with companies in other countries, none of the remote coordination is new to me.

Three Situations Where This Works Best

You have no SEO owner

Marketing is handling SEO between other jobs, or an agency is running it with nobody internally checking the work. I become the person who owns the channel and answers for it.

You have a team but no direction

You already employ writers, a developer, or a marketing generalist. They are capable, but nobody senior is setting SEO priorities. I direct the work rather than duplicate it.

You tried an agency and it stalled

Reports arrived, rankings did not move, and nobody could explain why. You want one accountable person with continuity instead of rotating account staff.

What I Actually Deliver Each Month

Not a vague retainer. These are the workstreams. Which ones run in a given month depends on what your site needs most, agreed with you in the roadmap.

Technical SEO

Crawls, indexation checks, Core Web Vitals, site architecture, redirects, and schema markup. Delivered as prioritized tickets your developer can action, or implemented by me. Starts with a full SEO audit.

Keyword and Content Strategy

Search intent mapping, topic clusters, and content briefs your writers can follow without further explanation. Covered in more depth on my content strategy page.

On-Page Optimization

Titles, meta descriptions, heading structure, internal linking, and page-level schema. Optimized for search intent first, then for extraction so pages earn snippets and AI citations.

Authority and Links

Digital PR, guest contributions, partnerships, unlinked mention reclamation, and citation building for local clients. Link profile monitoring and disavow management where needed. No private networks.

Reporting and Analytics

GA4 and Search Console configuration, conversion tracking, and a live Looker Studio dashboard. Weekly written updates and a monthly call. Detail on my analytics and reporting page.

AI Search Visibility

Structuring content and entities so ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity, and Gemini cite your brand. Crawler access, answer-shaped content, and citation tracking. See GEO services.

How Remote Actually Works, in Practice

Remote fails when it is vague. These are the specific commitments that make it work, and the ones I would ask about if I were the client.

Real time zone overlap

A fixed daily window that overlaps US business hours, with calls scheduled in your time zone rather than mine. UK and Australian hours land naturally in my working day.

Your tools, not mine

Slack or Teams for daily contact. Asana, Jira, Trello, or ClickUp for tickets. I join your systems instead of asking you to learn a portal built for my convenience.

A written weekly update

What shipped, what it moved, what is next. Plus a live reporting dashboard you can open any day rather than a PDF that arrives once a month.

Response-time rules

You should never wait more than one business day for an answer, and never have to ask twice for a status update. Distance is not an excuse for silence.

Documented decisions

Every recommendation is written down with the reasoning attached. If I disappeared tomorrow, your team could pick up the roadmap and keep going. That is the test of good remote work.

A small client roster

Overbooking is the most common reason remote engagements fade after two months. I keep the roster small enough that your account gets real hours, not leftovers.

Industries I Have Worked In

Fifteen years across a fairly wide range. These are the sectors where I have shipped real results rather than read about them.

B2B, SaaS, MSP and IT

Long sales cycles, buying committees, and low-volume high-intent keywords. My current portfolio work is largely here. Detail on my B2B SEO services page.

E-commerce

Category and product page architecture, faceted navigation, and product schema. One client reached 47% year-over-year organic traffic growth and 23% more online sales.

Local and Multi-Location Services

Google Business Profile, map pack visibility, citations, and location page structure. See local SEO.

Senior Living and Healthcare

An assisted living facility grew lead generation 233% and cut vacancy 75%. Regulated, trust-sensitive content where accuracy matters more than volume.

Professional Services

Law, finance, consulting, and agencies. High-value conversions where a handful of the right rankings matters more than broad traffic.

Publishers and Content Sites

Content pruning, cannibalization cleanup, and topical authority building at scale, plus the technical work large content libraries need.

Remote Manager vs In-House Hire vs Agency

Three ways to get SEO covered. The right answer depends on how much work you actually have and how much senior judgment you need.

Results From Working This Way

Every one of these came from a remote engagement with a client in another country. I have worked this way since 2010, with companies in the United States, Canada, and Australia.

+80%

Revenue growth for a local services client on a brand-new domain

+47%

Year-over-year organic traffic, with +23% online sales, for an e-commerce client

+233%

Lead generation, and 75% vacancy reduction, for an assisted living facility

76%

Task-time reduction from the 10-tool SEO automation hub I built

I am Google Partner certified and a Certified Project Manager, and I work from a home office in Iloilo, Philippines. That last detail matters for one reason worth being direct about: it is why senior experience costs less here than it would in Chicago or Sydney. It has nothing to do with the quality of the work, and you should judge that on the audit before you commit to anything.

I Can Direct Your Existing Team, Not Just Do the Tasks

Most remote SEO hires are individual contributors who stop at the edge of their own task list. The handoff between SEO and development is exactly where most programs stall.

What Long-Term Remote Clients Say

Both of these came from multi-year remote engagements, which is the part that matters when you are hiring someone you will never meet in person.

★★★★★
"Efryll is very easy to communicate with. He built websites, managed all my hosting accounts, and did SEO work for me. He never 'disappeared', and he was always honest with me. He actually didn't need much management. Once he knew what I needed, he just did it. He always took the initiative to research and figure things out. I like him more than any other PH team member I've ever had."

"Efryll was the first guy I hired from Iloilo City and we worked together for over 2 years. During this time my team in the Philippines grew to 30 people, most from Iloilo using the help of Efryll. I fully trusted his decisions about bringing in more people and handling more complex tasks. I highly recommend Efryll."

How We Start, With Your Risk Kept Low

1. A free 30-minute call

You show me the site and the goal. I tell you honestly whether SEO is the right spend right now, and what I would do first. No script, no pressure.

2. A paid trial audit

A bounded SEO audit covering technical health, content, links, and AI search visibility. You see my analysis quality, communication, and deadline behavior before committing to anything ongoing. The findings are yours either way.

3. A monthly retainer with a 30-60-90 plan

If the audit lands well, we move to ongoing work with a clear scope, agreed priorities, and a live dashboard. Including AI search visibility, which is where a growing share of buyers now start.

Remote SEO Manager: Frequently Asked Questions

What is a remote SEO manager?
A remote SEO manager is a senior practitioner who owns your search program from outside your office: strategy, technical fixes, content direction, and reporting. The difference from an agency is that you work with one named person who learns your business, rather than an account manager relaying instructions to junior staff. The difference from a full-time employee is that you pay for seniority and output rather than a salary, benefits, and a desk.

Can a remote SEO manager work in my time zone?
Yes. I hold a fixed daily overlap with US business hours, and I schedule calls in your time zone rather than mine. For UK and Australian clients the overlap falls naturally in your working day. The practical rule I work to: you should never wait more than one business day for an answer, and never have to ask twice for a status update.

How is a remote SEO manager different from an SEO agency?
With an agency you get a team, a process, and an account manager between you and the people doing the work. With a remote SEO manager you get one senior person doing the work directly. Agencies suit companies that need many hands at once. A remote manager suits companies that need senior judgment, continuity, and someone who remembers the decision made three months ago and why.

How much does a remote SEO manager cost compared to a US in-house hire?
A senior in-house SEO manager in the US costs roughly $90,000 to $150,000 in salary plus 25 to 40 percent in benefits, taxes, tools, and overhead, so $115,000 to $200,000 fully loaded. A senior remote SEO manager on retainer typically runs $30,000 to $96,000 a year depending on scope, with no benefits, recruiting fees, or severance exposure. For most small and mid-size companies that is comparable seniority at 40 to 70 percent less total cost.

How do we communicate and track progress?
I work inside whatever you already use: Slack or Teams for daily contact, Asana, Jira, Trello, or ClickUp for tickets, and a shared Looker Studio dashboard that is live rather than a monthly PDF. Standard rhythm is a weekly written update covering what shipped, what it moved, and what is next, plus a monthly call. You should never need to chase me for a report.

Can you manage my existing marketing team?
Yes, and that is often the highest-value way to use me. I am a Certified Project Manager and previously directed an 18-person build team of 5 designers, 10 developers, and 3 SEO specialists at a US marketing agency. If you already have writers, developers, or a marketing generalist, I can set priorities, write briefs and tickets, review output, and hold the timeline, so your existing people produce work that actually ranks.

What is the best way to start working with a remote SEO manager?
Start with a paid trial project, normally a full technical and content audit. It is bounded, it produces something useful whether or not we continue, and it shows you my analysis quality, communication, and deadline behavior before you commit to a retainer. Most engagements then move to a monthly retainer with a clear scope and a 30-60-90 day plan.

How quickly can you start?
Usually within one to two weeks. There is no recruiting cycle, no notice period, and no onboarding bureaucracy. After the first call I can normally begin a trial audit within a few days, and full retainer work typically starts at the beginning of the following month. Compare that with two to four months to recruit an in-house SEO manager before day one of actual work.

What happens if it does not work out?
The paid trial audit exists for exactly this reason. It is bounded, so if my analysis or communication is not what you wanted, you stop there and keep the findings. On retainers I work month to month with 30 days notice rather than locking you into a six or twelve month contract. And if SEO is not the right spend for your business right now, I will tell you on the first call instead of selling you a retainer.

Ready to Put One Senior Person on It?

A free 30-minute consultation: an honest read on where your search visibility is leaking, what I would fix first, and whether I am the right fit for how your team works. No scripts, no pressure.
